Bastille Day - July 14, 2006
Bastille Day is the French symbol of the end of the Monarchy and the beginning of the First Republic. The national holiday is a time when all citizens can feel themselves to be members of a republican nation.
For me, as a foreigner...... I look forward to the fireworks display.
Brought Min, Caya and Hana along. Initially planned to take the tram to Quinqonces. Waited at the station for 5 minutes and when it finally arrived, it was too full to board. Decided to walk with only about 15 minutes to spare before the display due to start.
Went through Rue St Catherine, turned right at Cours Victor Hugo and we reached Pont du Pierre. A big crowd was already there waiting for the display.
At about 10:45 pm, it started and lasted for more than 30 minutes. The kids (and me too...)enjoyed the show and after it finished at 11:30, we walked back. Bought a bottle of Coke on the way as the night was warm (34 degrees) and humid. Hana was too sleepy and had to carry her from Champion all the way to her bed.
