Stairs to heaven...
Dune du Pyla.....The highest sand dune in Europe is located near Arcachon, 60 km from Bordeaux.
Standing 347 feet high, 2.7 km long and 550 yards wide, it is formed by the strong winds and currents of the Atlantic Ocean.
Visited the place twice before and loved each visit. The climb up can be daunting as one need to walk uphill in the sand. My kids( except for Cupi whom has a distaste for sand) love the climb and the heavenly view of the Atlantic Ocean from the top.
Was looking forward (dreading) the climb and voila..... they have installed stairs.
So, no more huffs and puffs to reach to the top. Min and Caya took the traditional way of climbing through the sand. Wanted to wait for sunset but sun was still high despite 9 pm. Decided to go down by the sand route head back to Bordeaux for kebab dinner.
