Maybe I should change my profession.....
The pipe that goes to the flush in the toilet of my rented flat was leaking badly. Noticed it yesterday morning when we woke up. Water was dripping all the way down to our neighbour's staircase. Had to turn off the feeding tap and guess what.... that tap (ancient one) started to leak too. I suspect the rubber seals must have cracked judging from the antique look of the pipes.
If this is my own house in Shah Alam, I would have attempted to repair it myself. After all, repairing people and fixing 'leaks' is part of my daily job.
However, since this is a rented place and I am in a foreign land.....I had to call the landlord.(Takut jadi tikus baiki labu) The landlord of course gave me the plumber's number and my local friend (Tania) called him up for me.
He came today at around 3 pm carrying his tool box. After telling him the problem, he started to unscrew the pipe and true enough...my hunch (diagnosis) was right. He simply replaced an 'O' ring rubber seal that will cost a maximum of RM 1 ( 0.20 Euro) in Malaysia. Within 10 minutes, the job was done.
His charges............. a whopping 90 Euros !!!!
That translates to RM 450 in my currency..... a month's pay for my Indon maid.......
Phew........
Lesson learnt today:
Better be a plumber than a surgeon as the charges are similar but responsibilities and headaches are much less. Not to mention number of years spent to become a surgeon.
