TGV
No no no... not Transposition of Great Vessels...
TGV stands for Train à Grande Vitesse (French for "high-speed train") is France's high-speed rail service.
It holds the record for the fastest wheeled train, and the highest average speed for a regular passenger service. The jouney from Bordeaux to Paris (579 km) takes slightly more than 3 hours. No check-in is required and most of the time it is on time. It is a popular mode of transport in France and I simply love it. So far it is a very safe mode of transport, with no recorded fatalities at high speed.
TGVs travel at up to 320 km/h (200 mph) in commercial use and over 500 km/h (310 mph) on test runs. It is so fast that my budget digital Canon IXUS (actually it is my wife's camera) pictures will be a blur when taking photos on a moving TGV.
